RESPONSIBILITIES: The Legal Assistant is a non-exempt position.
The Legal Assistant provides intake services to potential clients, prepares documents and a variety of other administrative tasks to support the legal work of staff attorneys including drafting letters, legal documents/pleadings, e-filing, filing, copying, telephone, scheduling, etc.
Other position responsibilities include: completing phone, online, and in-person intakes with potential clients to determine eligibility for LSNM’s services and provide follow up with case handlers and potential clients and using the case management system to screen applicants, accurately process client intakes and perform other tasks as needed.
Applicants must be flexible and willing to accept additional duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience in legal work is preferred.
Ability to deal pleasantly and professionally with clients, attorneys, and general public.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills are required to work with clients and the general public, and to provide a professional and respectful experience to clients.
The Legal Assistant must have the ability to solve problems quickly and work in a fast-paced environment.
The Legal Assistant must exercise judgment in implementing established policies and procedures and maintaining confidentiality of all information in the office.
Strong telephone skills necessary.
Legal secretary or assistant experience and familiarity with Minnesota Court’s e-filing system preferred.
Experience in use of Microsoft Word or similar word processing systems required.

Ability to speak Spanish, Somali or Arabic a plus.

SALARY RANGE: Salary beginning at $45,000 dependent on years of experience, pursuant to current pay scale.
